Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh


Ron Violi was hired as the president and chief executive officer of Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in 1998, charged with directing the turnaround of a nationally recognized pediatric hospital that was struggling financially with realized annual losses in excess of $25 million.  Vince Deluzio was brought in as a member of the board of directors of Children’s Hospital and served on its executive committee during Mr. Violi’s tenure.  Under Mr. Violi’s leadership the hospital realized record profits each year and became one of the top 10 pediatric facilities in the nation as reported by U.S. News and World Report.  By the summer of 2005, the hospital had a record profit of $29 million per year and was positioned to join the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s (UPMC) health system.  Incident to the hospital becoming part of UPMC, an agreement was made for the construction of a state-of-the-art replacement facility which became fully operational in the spring of 2009.  Mr. Deluzio remains on the board of directors of Children’s Hospital and UPMC.
